Ryzenberg On: Celebrating the Red Soles at Neiman Marcus

If there is a shoe party, you know I am there! And if there is only ONE foot fete one should not miss is the 20th anniversary of Christian Louboutin’s iconic red soles.

I, along with some of San Francisco’s most fashionable ladies, attended this invite-only preview of his legendary works of art at Neiman Marcus! (yes, to me, footwear is like art, and it this line actually made it on SFgate.com

The event featured light bites, bubbly and lots of drool worthy sandals, boots, booties, flats and heels. This capsule collection, which is only available at Neiman Marcus on Union Square in the Bay Area and select stores worldwide, features some Louboutin’s most iconic shoes such as the ‘plumette,’ with actual feathers, the ‘Love’ flats (which are his favorite all-time) and of course the fringe boots that pay homage to only leggy gal, Ms. Tina Turner, among other eye catching masterpieces.

It is amazing Christian Louboutin has only been around for 20 years. Through the years, this footwear maestro managed to give us some of the most innovative footwear we can remember. (oh yeah, not to mention the red soles, despite some legal run-ins)

When a woman walks, there is nothing sexier than seeing a classic pair of patent leather pumps (of course I am referring to the Rolando) with that little peek-a-boo of red in the bottom. It’s almost as if they transport you to the 1950s or 1960s when women’s fashions were ladylike, demure and offered a bit of a je ne sais quo feel!

We all admired the shoes and dreamt what it’d be like to actually own a piece of footwear history, until looking at the price tag and realizing that we had to pay rent the next week.

A girl can dream or in this case many girls are probably dreaming!

Fashion Star - Preview

NBC kicks off the new year with the new reality competition series “Fashion Star,” which will search for the next big brand in fashion. Featuring host and executive producer Elle Macpherson along with celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos, the series will give 14 unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their collections in three of America’s largest retailers: Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Each week, the show will begin with an exhilarating fashion show unlike anything seen before featuring musical performances, dancers and models in front of a studio audience. Every fashion show will be built around a weekly challenge that is designed to further develop and expand the designers’ brands. The series will feature clothes designed for America to buy, and it has enlisted three of the world’s top retailers to help in the decision-making process. Caprice Willard (Macy’s), Terron E. Schaefer (Saks Fifth Avenue) and Nicole Christie (H&M) will serve as the judges who make on-the-spot decisions as they vie for the right to purchase and exclusively carry the work of the up-and-coming designers each week.

At the end of each episode, America will have the chance to immediately purchase the winning designs showcased on the episode that week. What viewers see on TV that night will be on the streets and in stores immediately. With just a single trip down the runway, “Fashion Star” will change the lives and fortunes of these aspiring designers forever. Each week, designers who do not sell any of their items to the buyers will be up for elimination. In addition, celebrity mentors Simpson, Richie and Varvatos will be able to save one of these designers from the chopping block.

In the end, one designer will successfully combine fashion and business to become the next Fashion Star and will receive the prize of a lifetime - $6,000,000 in orders for capsule collections in Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue stores. Watch Fashion Star - http://www.nbc.com/fashion-star

  • ROGUE. Established in 1999, Rogue began a men’s collection of updated classic outerwear with downtown influences. Built around the lifestyle of New York based designer Jimmy Reilly, the casual masculine leather and cloth outerwear collection rapidly gained prominence in top retail stores across North America. For more than a decade Rogue’s distinct identity, fit and market leadership inspired its designer to further develop the vision. In the Autumn of 2009, the scope of that vision was realized in the expansion of the brand as a contemporary men’s lifestyle collection. The brands identity embodies its classic beginnings with new developments amplifying the unique attitude and sophisticated style. Every garment is constructed and treated to have a worn look and personality. This unique individuality is achieved through experimental practices in fabric development and garment finishing. In the end, the Rogue’s perfect patina is achieved through specialized washing, dyeing and finishing techniques. The branded hardware, zippers, snaps and buttons are well engineered and finish each garment with character and superior quality. The untiring creative use of exclusive applications define the brand as exciting, innovative and wearable. The Rogue collection can be found in top department stores and specialty boutiques worldwide. [ Photos by Shaun Tiangsing
  •  Stylematic is the brainchild of eight fashion forward innovators from Start Up Weekend San Francisco.  Have you ever stared at your closet and felt like you had nothing to wear? Do you hate shopping because you don’t know what to buy? Knowing your style and color preferences, Stylematic delivers recommendations and deals for other items, as well as comparable deals from nearby stores. Stylematic makes outfit selection is easy and social. Integrate with your online profile and browse friends’ closets, consult style mavens, and receive feedback on her purchases.

You will learn how early stage startups present their products and pitch to a panel of investors. Our demo days are hosted monthly as part of Pitch Accelerator workshop where startups present their progress to panel of investors in order to get feedback on their idea, business model and potential fundability of their startup.
