Testimonials and quotes from previous presenters:

/ Thanks so much for letting me present last night - it was a great event! The Fashion Mash-Up Workshop was a wonderful and very educational night for me. I began to see right away the value of bringing together people in the local San Fransisco Fashion industry. From the skills and resources necessary for individuals in the fashion industry to promote themselves to the components of a successful fashion event (the significance of the venue being near and dear to me of course!), I learned a lot and met some truly interesting people. Thanks!  ~ Helen Belogolova @ Venuetastic

/ I very much enjoyed presenting at the FASHION MASH-UP yesterday. The audience was engaging and knowledgeable.  As the founder of VIZL, it was rewarding to see an audience of fashion professionals excited about using VIZL for social shopping.  I look forward to working with SFFAMA to bring technology, fashion and retail closer, as mobile and social networking become mainstream. Thanks! ~ Prosenjit Sen @ www.goVIZL.com

/ Thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of yesterday’s Fashion Mash-Up Seminar. We didn’t know quite what to expect and not being from the “fashion world” we thought we might be out of place. We couldn’t have been more wrong! Owen Geronimo and everyone involved created a space for us to fit right into. Not only were we well received but the ideas, concepts and solutions discussed were fresh new takes on issues that pertain directly to the challenges that our business is dealing with as well. Thanks again. ~ Troy Rutt, True Power Inc @ http://truepoweriv.com/

/ Thank you for inviting us to SFFAMA’s Fashion Mash-Up.  We enjoyed meeting you and loved your energy and passion about what you do.  We appreciated the time you afforded us to speak about our event. The guest panel was great and really informative. The attendees were lucky to have such an event to help get them jump started. We really enjoyed ourselves and thank you once again for the opportunity! ~ Angie & Charles Ansanelli @ Treasure Island Flea

Costume Institute Gala 2011, In Honor of Alexander McQueen, The MET, NY

[ Source: MET MUSEUM ]

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. The exhibition will feature approximately one hundred ensembles and seventy accessories from Mr. McQueen’s prolific nineteen-year career. Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the “bumster” trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point “origami” frock coat will be on view. McQueen’s fashions often referenced the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s, but his technical ingenuity always imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at the vanguard.

The exhibition is organized by Andrew Bolton, curator, with the support of Harold Koda, curator in charge, both of The Costume Institute. Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett, the production designers for Alexander McQueen’s fashion shows, will serve as the exhibition’s creative director and production designer, respectively. All head treatments and masks will be designed by Guido.

New Designer Consultation Classes and Networking Events this Summer!

Apparel, Handbag, Jewelry and Accessory Designers – Meet with a small group of fellow fashion and accessory designers who are launching their brand, (or have recently launched their line) just like you!  Get direct feed back on your line from a seasoned fashion sales representative, Karri Ann Frerichs, and an award winning marketing professional, Leslie Lum, the co-founders of Fashion Market SF, a new organization focused on the growth of San Francisco’s fashion industry as a recognized fashion capital.

Bring 3-5 of your collection samples as well as your line sheets, look books and other marketing materials and meet with other designers in a showroom setting. We’ll have racks and tables to display your samples and plenty of comfortable seating.  Each event is limited to just 10 fashion designers so that we can give direct feedback to each brand individually.

    Event Agenda

    • 6:00-6:30 – Enjoy wine and snacks and network with fellow fashion, jewelry and accessory designers.
    • 6:30-7:00 – Karri Ann Frerichs, and Leslie Lum, co-founders of Fashion Market SF will speak about what buyers are looking for, how to become “market ready,” and how best to market and promote your brand through various networking tools.
    • 7:00-9:00 – Each designer receives a 10-15 minute evaluation of their line.  Are you priced competitively? Can your look book and line sheet be improved? What brands and stores should you position your line with? What are some innovative ways you can market your line?

Receive direct feedback on your line from experienced marketing and sales professionals and gain valuable market insight and information by listening and participating in each brand’s critique.  You’ll leave with a new confidence that your line is “market ready” so that you can avoid expensive trial and error that takes most new brands 3-5 seasons to correct.  You’ll also make some great new friends and network along the way!

    Upcoming Early Summer Dates:

    Rodarte: States of Matter

Rodarte: States of Matter from MOCA on Vimeo.

Rodarte: States of Matter is the first West Coast solo exhibition of the work of fashion and costume designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. In this video, Kate and Laura talk about the stories that have inspired their collections and the physical processes their materials go through.

This intimate look at more than 20 pieces from Rodarte’s Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Fall 2008 runway collections, as well as original ballet costumes designed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy from Rodarte for the feature film Black Swan, was directed by Felipe Lima, with original music by No Age.
