Why Brands Should Embrace Fashion Blogs

mry:

@KylaApplegate. I’m mildly obsessed with economical, 20-something fashion bloggers. It all started in the Spring of 2011 and the rise of Pinterest, the gateway to blog obsession. My first few style searches continually pulled up one blogger in particular: Sydney Poulton at The Daybook. Now, more than a year later, I’m checking her site daily.

SF Design Week 2012's Appealing Runway Show Conveys all things Fashion & Design

Written by Lexie Tiongson [ Images by: Sam Jang ]

Creative minds, modeling talent and invoking fashion designs were energized at San Francisco Design Week’s fashion show Saturday night. The show was colorful, confident and appealing for any fan of San Francisco fashion.

Hosted by SFFAMA and Astro Studios, the runway navigated beautiful talented models and designs from Jennifer Schmidt, Rogue, JYJZ, Scott Ian Mcfarland and Audrey Szeto. The highly innovative show was secured with perfect ensembles meant to produce a fanciful image for luxury, texture and effortless creation.

With every direction, Owen Geronimo succeeded this runway show as the creative director. The music was phenomenal and on point, with a twist on what might be a true San Franciscan’s Pandora station. And Astro Studios proved to show that great interior design and runway can truly mix.

But the real standouts of the event were the astounding drinks provided by Izze Sparkling Juice and tasteful h'orsdourves provide by Cheat-a-Little catering.

In efforts to make a great runway show, the collaboration between SFFAMA, Inc., Astro Studios, AIGA SF, SF Design Week and Fashion+Tech SF cultivated every point of design achievement and fashion victory.

This event was sponsored by 360 Fashion Network, Fizz Marketing, Izze Sparkling JuiceHip Swap, Smart Energy Shots and the SFIEC.

ROGUE began a men’s collection of updated classic outerwear with downtown influences. Built around the lifestyle of New York based designer Jimmy Reilly, the casual masculine leather and cloth outerwear collection rapidly gained prominence in top retail stores across North America. For more than a decade Rogue’s distinct identity, fit and market leadership inspired its designer to further develop the vision. In the Autumn of 2009, the scope of that vision was realized in the expansion of the brand as a contemporary men’s lifestyle collection. New categories include washed and wired woven shirts, soft comfy knits and tees, chunky sweaters, warm vests and creased slim pants. The A/W 2011 season will mark the launch of a footwear collection for the brand. READ PRESS

Jennifer Schmidt was born and raised in Salinas, CA.  I attended CSU, Sacramento and majored in Apparel Marketing and Fashion Design.  While attending college, I designed for several local and school fashion shows.  Once I graduated CSU, Sacramento, I knew that I wanted to focus on fashion design, so I decided to go to grad school at the Academy of Art in San Francisco.  During the three years of attending the Academy of Art, I learned more than I ever could have imagined.  Since I have graduated the Academy of Art, I have been freelance designing and working on my own collection.  In March of this year, I made my debut at the ‘Gaultierize Yourself Fashion Show’ at the De Young Museum to celebrate the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit and looking forward to more opportunities.  “Live, Love, Create”.

Audrey Szeto is an artist and designer inspired by the intrinsically unique nature of each individual. She is always fueling her curiosity through the emotional and sensory responses of personal experiences as well as the recollection of memories. Whether through texture, weight or the feeling of constriction or exposure, each piece is about the process of transforming her ideas and sharing them with another. “The Safest Way to be” is a collection of garments inspired by methods of protection and self-preservation. Whether through suggestion of aggression or ritual practice, there is a connection between the physical and psychological that affords security and empowerment to the wearer. The emotional responses of the audience additionally become part of the story, as one cannot exist without the other.

Scott Ian McFarland is originally from Arkansas, Scott Ian McFarland grew up picking up fabrics for his mother’s quilts. After a BFA in sculpture he came to the Academy of Art in San Francisco, to pursue art further. He evolved towards fashion knitwear in order to create “wearable sculptures”. He graduated in 2009 with a MFA in Knitwear and his men collection was shown at the New York Fashion week. In parallel of his personal projects, he has been working in knitwear department of the Academy of Art since 2010. He is currently preparing to launch his own knitwear line.

The “Design Worlds” of San Francisco converged on Jaspers for a sold-out SF Design Week opening party hosted by AIGA San Francisco, Puccini Group, Whole Foods and 7X7 Magazine. Guests enjoyed Campari cocktails and appetizers, live chalkboard art, greeting from 7X7 Magazine Editor Chloé Harris Frankeny and a presentation by the team that designed Jaspers

AIGA San Francisco is partnered all week with AIA, IDSA, SEGD, RDI, SFFAMA, and IXDA for an amazing line-up of events and a fantastic opportunity to meet the people and groups who are literally designing San Francisco.

Since 2006, AIGA San Francisco has organized San Francisco Design Week as a way to reach out to a diverse community of over 20,000 Bay Area design professionals as well as local businesses, non-profits, entrepreneurs, students, the design-savvy public, tourists, and more. The Graces of Beauty at the 3rd Annual Beauty Expo

[ Photo by ASG Imaging. Article by Lexie Tiongson, The Elle Tee ]

Local fashion and technology entrepreneurs graced the spaces of Pigment Cosmetics on Saturday, May 27th to network and celebrate the 3rd Annual Beauty Expo. Hosted by Charleston Pierce and Owen Geronimo, four teams of hair stylists & make-up artists competed in a styling showcase. The beauty styling teams included: Avital Elgaziel and Jerushalem Weaver of Avital Beauty Lounge, Ericka Gosha and Regina Dixon, Geneive Jaramilla and Viet Thi Tha of Step Heavvy and Cynthea Amnatkeo and Desiree Cerda. While models were getting dolled-up, guests were able to network an enjoy all the commodities provided by the sponsors of the event. Models, bloggers and contestants were given Samsung Galaxy Tablets and iPads with AT&T’s 4G Lite service to tweet with during the competition and share images online.

After all the champagne bottle popping during wonderful “happy hour” provided by SFFAMA, all the hair and make-up stylists were done dolling up their models and giving them their final look. The teams then stepped up to explain their reasoning behind their style. Judges Joyce Hu, Dario Smith & Gwendolyn Wright all proceeded to critiquing the model’s styles during the runway show and after a tough decision, Avital Elgaziel and Jerushalem Weaver from Avital Beauty Lounge became the winning team for most creative hair and makeup.

In addition to showcasing all things beauty, many retailers and vendors including WorkPlayDate, Bachman’s Sparrow & Chloe+Isabel showcased their product during the event while Intern Sushi and Ask a Salon were providing giveaways. At the end, guests were able to take home a “swag bag” courtesy of Wella Professional. If there’s one thing about beauty that surprises people, it’s the togetherness of it all. As many people came together to celebrate beauty, another year of a successful Beauty Expo has come and gone.
