Brooklyn Circus SF, Block Party [Recap]

The Brooklyn Circus/BKc story begins in 2006 in a quaint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York with the aim to strengthen consumers’ appreciation for classic aesthetics and antique motifs whilst upholding the pillars of modern design within a hundred year plan. With time-tested values of classic American craftsmanship, a love for urban tradition, vintage sensibilities, and an endless search for the timeless silhouette, the empowerment and authenticity.

Founded by graphic designer Ouigi Theodore and developed by an arsenal of visionaries fueled by a common purpose, this bustling junction of style and character is always an experience. Beyond embracing techniques of timeless craftsmanship and sophisticated simplicity, The BKc fosters creative relationships, providing a social sanctuary for open-minded forward-thinkers. Every cuff of trouser, roll of the sleeves, and peaking pocket square is connected to a greater story, as they’ve succeeded at tailoring not only cloth and fabric, but lifestyles. With flagships now in Chicago and San Francisco, The BKc’s inspirational clout has solidified its cult following which has grown exponentially and globally.

Ryzenberg On: CFDA Highlights

[Source: Ryzenberg On PHOTOS: Fashionista.com]

Yesterday was a day of celebrations (hello, my birthday and the Queen’s Jubilee) and honors. Fashion’s finest gathered in NYC to pay homage to designers, sport glamorous duds and celebrate the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The event, hosted by SNL’s Seth Meyers, featured a parade of actors, models and sartorially gifted industry tastemakers. The big winners of the night were pint size moguls Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who won the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year for The Row.

I guess Michelle Tanner has come a long way, and I must say this was indeed one fashion-packed full house.

Here are my other favorites:

  • CFDA President Diane Von Furstenberg in one of her creations
  • Carine Roitfeld in Alexander Wang & the man himself
  • Joan Smalls wearing and in the company of Michael Kors
  • Jessica Parre in Jason Wu
  • Hilary Rhoda in Rebecca Minkoff
  • Kate Bosworth in Altuzarra
  • Lily Collins in Marchesa
  • Vogue Editrix-in-Chief Anna Wintour in Marc Jacobs

KARL: Karl Lagerfeld for Net-A-Porter

by Lexie Tiongson

Contemporary. Classic. Black & White. These are all things that describe KARL, the latest collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Net-a-Porter. Recently launched in pop-up stores all over the world in Paris, New York, Sydney, Berlin & London, the collection is presented with 72 seaming less pieces.

Mix eclectic with a contemporary cool and you’ve got KARL. With several designs already sold-out online, the collection is a successful definition of what Karl Lagerfeld has composed as a designer throughout the years.

Hits cuts are found to be defying, complementing every detail you might find on any outfit. From twill pants to hammered-crepe blouses, there’s nothing else you can say about this collection except call it “rocker-chic.”

With a collection “all about Karl” combining style & taste, we can find ourselves jumping off the walls as riveting, chic fashionistas.

Ryzenberg On: Midwinter Maxi Skirts

Don’t be sad we have a few weeks of winter left — just make the most of it. If you are tired of wearing pants, leggings and jeans, (repeat, wash, dry clean, repeat) lower your seams and go for maxi skirts.

These ultra long fun pieces not only elongate your gams, they are also a great transitional piece you can wear in spring and summer. Wear now with boots and a hat, and later with sandals or wedges. Jazz it up with some bold baubles to give it more of a bohemian feel.

A perfect cure to the winter blues and a sure bet to make you stand from the pack.

Kate Moss For Mango

Mango Fashion presented Kate Moss as the new face of the Mango Fashion Spring/Summer 2012 campaign.

In an exclusive interview Kate Moss talk about the great time she has had being part of Mango Fashion and working with Terry Richardson “I’m really excited to be working with Mango for S/S 2012, we had a great time shooting the campaign, the team are so easy to work with and shooting with Terry is always fun.”
MANGO Fashion has also produced a new TV commercial featuring Kate Moss, called Spy Game. Shot under the direction of Terry Richardson in London, the film will be launched in early March in approximately forty countries, including France, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

MANGO fashion has a reputation for featuring models and actresses of international stature and Kate Moss is the perfect choice to take over from Isabeli Fontana who was the face of the A/W 2011 collection. In the past MANGO has also worked with Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Milla Jovovich, Lizzy Jagger, Karolina Kurkova, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Inés Sastre, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington and Diane Kruger.

The new season MANGO Fashion trends include graphic contrasts between clean and unstructured lines. As a variation to the cleanliness of lines, the collection has a clear 60’s influence, particularly in the dresses. Lightweight, pleated and gathered fabrics offer movement and present a fresh, flirty and feminine touch. MANGO is also introducing a more casual line, bringing together ethnic elements and blending them with sportswear details to give a very simple, strong urban look. Tie-dye, abstract prints and patchwork in indigo and yellow tones with unwashed effects reinforce the casual appeal.

MANGO Fashion opened its first store in Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia in 1984 and now has over 2,400 stores in 107 countries. Its concept is based on a quality fashion product combined with the latest fashion trends at an affordable price. The brand image is reinforced by its stores, which benefit from a dynamic image in accordance with the personality of its customers, and represent the calling card for the brand. The new Kate Moss campaign was photographed by Terry Richardson, styled by Géraldine Saglio, Make Up by Charlotte Tilbury and Hair Stylist Odile Gilbert

Ryzenberg On: Tickle a Fashionista’s Fancy

After extensive blog research from the Ryzenberg On investigative unit, (OK, me) there are many things that stylish gals covet that go beyond clothes, shoes and baubles. But let me make something clear, we can never have enough of the aforementioned items.

However, since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, sometimes it’s the little things that make us smile and anything pretty will always wow us. We love good fresh smells, (perfumes, candles and flowers) anything sumptuous (warning: this one might follow a ‘do I look fat or have I gained weight’ ponder) and soft (puppies and kittens, please apply.)

So if you are looking to impress your girl of BFF, here are a few ideas that might make you one lucky dog, not just on Feb. 14 for year-round bliss. Oh yeah, and leave the lingerie for us to get, but if you really want a preview, make a date so that way Victoria doesn’t hold any secrets.

Ryzenberg On: Blame it on Rio

[ PHOTOS: Fashion Gone Rogue ]

This Vogue Brazil December 2011 fashion spread featuring supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio and Brazilian heartthrob Rodrigo Santoro (you might recognize him as the ‘enigmatic’ designer from Love Actually) is certainly sizzling.

Shot in the Big Apple by Eric Guillemain, this romantic feature has the beautiful power couple (sadly, not in real life, but don’t they make a great pair?) donning YSL, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton.

It is magazine covers and stories like this that affirm me how Brazilians have special powers that seriously produce some of the most beautiful people in the world. Does their water have anything special? Or perhaps, the caipirinha is the catch!

Peter Loc Tan Nguyen, by Lexie Tiongson

by Lexie Tiongson,  Originally Published in SOMA Magazine

Representing androgyny, Peter Loc Tan Nguyen’s collection defines the portrayal of masculinity and femininity brought into several pieces. Effortless, sophisticated, and understated are just a few words to describe the collection. As a recent graduate from Academy of Art University with a degree in both Fashion Design and Knitwear, Nguyen combines the two styles together to make a seemingly contemporary collection. To add a unique touch to his garments, Nguyen mounted knitwear pieces onto organza to make a more structural and sculptural feel. His purpose was to bring a new perspective to knitwear. Most of the textiles he used were made with an industrial machine to make a fine knit so that the knitwear aspect is disguised.

Some of his most memorable pieces include fine lines and structural cuts that convey the combination of masculinity and femininity he wishes is perceived from his inspiration of menswear. With a women’s ready-to-wear collection, Nguyen admits that he purposely used the construction of menswear and applied it in his designs.

“I wanted to explore what was inside of a menswear garment and translate it into a womenswear garment to play with masculinity but with feminine curves and fabrication,” Nguyen explains. With this aspect, his pieces definitely portray a balance of the two opposite characterizations. Nguyen believes that making his collection not so outrageous and expected distinguishes the feel and understanding of his fashion designs.
“I wanted to make a classic garment, but a piece that is simple and just illustrates what clothes are,” Nguyen articulates. In this mindset, his designs truly epitomize androgyny, making it something worthwhile, timeless and classic.

Nguyen is currently studying in Paris at Studio Berçot through Academy of Art University’s Sister City Scholarship Exchange. In 2010, he was the first place Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) $10,000 Scholarship recipient. The money was used to fund his senior collection at Academy of Art University, which was shown at his graduate fashion show this past May. His collection was also just recently showcased at Vancouver Fashion Week as a part of a sponsorship through Vancouver Fashion Week’s producer Jamal Abdourahman.Hoping to stay in Europe for a few more years, Nguyen wants to see all parts of fashion, art and design, and eventually come back to San Francisco to establish his label. “As a designer, my goal is to express my perspective on fashion and design,” Nguyen concludes.
