talkTECH Communications Holiday Mashup (Recap)

talkTECH Communications is a group of smart, savvy, business-minded individuals who have taken the downfall of big business and the lessons of “Recession 2.0″ to heart and created a company to serve the start-up community and business middle-class: a class that invariably constitutes the backbone of our economy, and whose innovations will lead us into the mobile future. We also understand the four basic laws of supply and demand and how those pesky, little laws impact your business. We know that you don’t exist in a vacuum, and it’s not enough to simply get you a "hit” on the evening news. Our goal is to use the discipline of communications as it applies to your business, while leveraging innovative technologies to develop a creative strategy for distributing your news and information; and then giving you data and statistics that will tell you exactly how our efforts translate into real-time, relevant, meaningful tools for growing your brand.

FASHION + TECH SF (formerly known as Fashion Mash-Up) @
http://www.meetup.com/FASHIONTECHSANFRANCISCO/ -
is San Francisco’s longest running workshop combining ‘business of fashion’ and 'fashion and technology’ formats. From it’s inception in February 2010, Fashion+Tech SF’s mission has been to provide an open dialogue that serves as a forum on how to develop innovative solutions to become better business entrepreneurs.

This workshop was developed as a platform to discuss the business of fashion and arts through the utilization of current business models and technologies. As a thriving epicenter of independent talents, ’FASHION+TECH SF“ features local entrepreneurs, fashion designers, bloggers, retailers, startups & techies in an effort to brainstorm and share new business solutions to create an exchange network amongst peers in San Francisco’s fashion and creative community.

The Finer Things in Fashion

Attractive and high quality apparel and accessories mean everything in fashion. Cuts, colors (shades & tones), prints and woven materials (fabric) are seen within every piece of clothing or accessory. Details are important and show the complexity made to produce that piece of art.

With the upcoming celebration of the holidays and turn onto the New Year, it’s important to see what kinds of things are “finer” in our wardrobe. As we shop daily, weekly or even monthly, we tend to forget what kinds of things last long or don’t.

Classics are made to be forever and have those specific cuts, colors and materials that make us want to buy them and have them in our wardrobe for as long as we can keep them.

Here are a couple of things that are seen to be “The Finer Things in Fashion” because of how classic they can be. Every piece can be a “classic” in anyone’s opinion; the details are just all that matters to make them a “finer” piece.

Pashmina Art Cashmere Gray Scarf

Fine in texture but strong, light and soft at the same time.

Chanel 2.55 Double Flap Bag
Quality fine lambskin leather with details of quilted stitching

Giuseppe Zanotti Neon Colorblock Platform D’Orsay

High gloss patent leather for colorful heels

Cartier Tank Solo Watch
A stainless steel case and bezel with precision quartz movement

Whether it’s a basic blazer or trendy heel, details mean a lot. Anyone and everyone can appreciate the finer things in fashion.

      • Dierdre Wallace of deeFind @ http://www.deefind.net/ - Inspired by living in San Francisco, I wanted to design shoes that were quite unique, works of art and offered accessibility to women to really bare all in deeFind shoes. Conceptually futuristic architecture has always been appealing to me: dynamic angles, bold lines, audacious structural gestures — all frequently reflected in my design aesthetic. In keeping with the sensibilities of futurism exploring, the desired outcome was incorporate sustainable materials, while providing drop-dead sexy, eco-friendly products. Working hard to produce the most refined designs I am capable of, as I fanatically search for alternative materials and creative methods. Each handmade pair of deeFind shoes is constructed in humane working conditions with comparable wages.

MIGNON GOULD is the editor-at-large of Thechicspy.com. The blog is a whimsical blend of class and sass from a sartorial sleuth. She’s always on the hunt for the hottest of hot, exposing the next big fashion heist, or investigating the looks of elusive red carpet celebs, those who are trés chic and those who merely shock. She never shows up to foil a fashion caper without being dolled up with her trademark orange trench, sporting oversized sunglasses, carrying a designer tote and flashing her handy-dandy magnifying glass for sartorial sleuthing. So be warned, next time you’re spotted by her out on the town; be stylish, be debonair, but above all, BE CHIC, because she’s on a mission to uncover the chicest in style and entertainment!

MIRA TORRES is a freelance writer whose links and articles have been featured in various online outlets including San Francisco’s 7×7, Blackbook, and Sashay magazine. Ryzenberg On: Art Basel Celebrations

The 305 rolled out the red carpet last weekend for Art Basel Miami Beach and the glitterati took center stage.

What started out 11 years ago as a winter art fair to showcase modern art from around the world, has transformed into the most prestigious art fair in the Americas. The original Art Basel takes place every summer in Switzerland, and it’s sort of like a Fashion Week for the arts (and they both include beautiful people, enviable fashions and suberb art oh yeah, and splendid surroundings)

Hundreds of galleries from around the world gather at the Miami Beach Convention Center and show more than 2,000 pieces of art. This is more of a Mecca for modern art lovers, dealers, collectors curators and celebrities looking to add a new Warhol to their wall.

But Basel wouldn’t be complete without its well-known bashes, and this year it was no different. Roberto Cavalli attended the Raphael Mazzucco book launch at Mr. Chow, while Harley Viera-Newton attended the Dom Perignon Luminous Party at the W South Beach. Miami Heat Superstar Dwayne Wade, Lily Donaldson and Naomi Campbell made a cameo at the DSquared2 cocktail and dinner and style icon Daphne Guinness hosted a dinner for M.A.C. Louis Vuitton hosted the Art.sy Beachside Barbecue at Soho House and guests included model Dasha Zhukova, Adrien Brody and Waris Ahluwalia.

Other events included a Pringle of Scotland fete hosted by Tilda Swinton, a Missoni dinner and fashion show and countless other cocktails around town.

This is some serious elbow rubbing going on. This is not just movie stars parading around but investment bankers, models, artists and fashion designers pay a visit to Miami and its beautiful beaches during Basel. This is certainly the ‘IT’ scene for December - and what’s more marvelous is that jet setters don’t have to deal with snow and can sip mojitos on the beach wearing the latest resort collections.

Now what can be better than that?

        Winter Coats by Lexie Tiongson

Everyone loves a good winter coat. One that will keep us warm from the cold and crisp weather outside. From anoraks to pea coats, there’s a winter coat out there for everyone. It’s always great to invest in two or three classic coats that you know will last long.

I’ve gathered four coats that are not only in this season, but are great coats to invest in to use for many years to come:

Marc Jacobs Double Breasted Wool Jacket

A wool jacket is essential for winter weather. With a slightly tailored silhouette, this beige jacket puts on a classic and natural feeling.

Top Shop Short Green Grosgrain Tie Coat

It’s always great to have a different colored coat. Green, navy blue or yellow are the most popular colors. This coat from Top Shop has a girly feel with the neck tie. Perfect for date nights and evening affairs.

        Diane von Furstenberg Funnelia Coat

A fur coat is always a must-have essential in any woman’s wardrobe. Fur comes and goes, but confidence is key in wearing a fur coat every winter. Anyone can do it. It’s just a matter of putting it with the right accessories.

        Kate Spade Sophie Capelet Coat

Just like a fur coat, capes also come and go within trends for fashion. But, capes are perfect for those windy, crisp, and chilly days. This capelet from Kate Spade is a classic and has fine detailing.

Coats are a must-have for the winter and just like everyone’s different personalities, our coats can have different personalities too.

Street Style Cred by Dario Smith (Boyz 2 Men)

        • Dario Smith ( @ http://dslitephoto.tumblr.com/) hails from Oakland, CA and majored in photo journalism with a heavy emphasis on fashion and style. He defines style as an extension of ones character and believes that fashion is the grounds for sophistication. In harmony these two create the classic and innovative art that we’ve come to love on a universal level. This concept of aesthetics has always been an umbrella to his trajectory.     He shoots to capture this sartorial harmony locally in mandate to express the notion that the San Francisco Bay Area “does” have an iconic flare that is not always noted in magazines, blogs, or in general fashion media. He is dedicated to seeing a brighter future for the SF Bay area fashion and style community and makes a point to capture all of the glory that the local landscape has to offer, fashion wise, to share with the world. So put on your best ensemble Bay Area, he’s looking for you!
